An insulation company is helping Albertans get cozy, with support from Energy Efficiency Alberta’s Home Improvement Rebate Program. IDEAL Insulation, out of Calgary, is a participating contractor in the program, offering attic insulation upgrades.

Although unseen and forgotten about most of the time, attics can impact how energy efficient a home is. “Attics get hot, roofs attract a lot of sun and a lot of heat. If you have a poorly insulated attic, it’s putting a lot of heat into the rooms below,” explains IDEAL Insulation sales and estimating manager Colin. “In the winter time, if your attic is poorly insulated you’re losing a lot of heat too.”

Through the province-wide program, households can get up to $6,000 in rebates on energy efficient upgrades. The insulation improvements in attics, main walls and or basement can all be included in the rebates topping out at $3,500. The rates are based on where the insulation is applied and how much is added.

IDEAL has seen an uptick in people opting in for the upgrades to their homes says Colin, “the rebate creates incentive for people to make that investment.”  Money well spent for all vintage of home. “If someone has an older home, say 40 plus years with original insulation or just insufficient insulation by today’s standards, the rebate dollars can be significant,” he explains. “Even $1000 can make a house more energy efficient, more comfortable.”
